... and last but not least!
A prayer of thanks for all of the people who were involved with this year's SonQuest Rainforest Vacation Bible School. You would be truly awed at the amount of time, money, and creative effort that was donated to making this a great week for our children (and remember, whether or not you have children, they are your children!!!).
An estimate of the number of man-hours donated toward preparation? Let's see... Ordering supplies, Preliminary meetings, Two adults and six youth group teens painting murals... Six classroom teachers preparing lessons... One crafts, one music, one enrichment teacher choosing and preparing activities... Two ladies planning snacks, five teens getting ready for games... Five teens learning lines and one adult directing directing play practice... Hours of decorating before the week started... How could you count?!
Then there's the donation of supplies. Many bought craft and food supplies that were requested, and many others donated things unnoticed, as they became needed. The church paid for additional craft supplies as well as the Bible story books, stickers, tattoos, t-shirts and transfers (done by the Tomah Cash Store).
In the week of VBS itself, there were eleven adults and eleven teens each spending at least four hours a day with some 50 kids at church. Linda Pingel donated a morning to take pictures for the kids and for the church website; Julie Jacobson came several times to practice handbells with the children. A local person who spent time studying parrots in the rainforest donated her time one morning to teach the children some of the things she learned about them. Two young moms took on the huge task of offering a nursery class for 2- to 4-year olds for the first time this year.
The kids enjoyed the week and had a lot of fun with the themed Bible lessons and we certainly hope and pray that they came away with a better understanding of God's love for them, but there is truly so much in addition that our church gets out of Vacation Bible School, it's another opportunity to come together as a church family, work towards the common good of serving each other while sharing the Gospel message.
